MEMORIES OF MOTHER DAY

by Temerity Views [Queen MaiaCer Lysette]

When I was a child, Mother’s Day included wearing a corsage of red carnations or roses so that the world knew my mother was alive, cooking breakfast for my mother, and taking her out for Brunch after Sunday Mass. Rows and rows of females wore either red or white corsages (white, if your Mother was deceased). I loved making gifts for my mother. Each year, my brother and I sang a song to our mother written by Theodore Morse and Howard Johnson called MOTHER. {I have supplied a link for the words}. This is the manner in which we celebrated in our family.

Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world in more than forty (40) countries. Although there are variations in date and the original concept, It still basically honors motherhood everywhere.

I love the concept of Mother’s Day in the UK. It is Mothering Day and was related to the Mother of Christ. In some countries it is also related to returning to Mother Church. As a feminist, I am particularly found of the Bolivia’s Mother’s Day. . . ” It is the day we pay homage to the one who gave us life in pain, and it is indirect homage to the nature of the mother who is creator, provider and protector all at once. Thus we can see that, in spite of the centuries of colonization by the patriarchal Spanish society, the Pachamama (Mother Earth) continues her influence and powerful presence in Bolivian society.

The mother plays a leading role in the Bolivian character. She is the one who gives life and is the basic pillar of the home. The woman is the most important person in the home; she’s the one who is in charge of the household economy and the steady support for the entire household. . . . ” { https://info.handicraft-bolivia.com/Mother-s-Day-an-event-tied-to-Bolivia-s-history-a30-sm162}

Happy Mother’s Day to all who nurture the young and contribute to the next generation.

THE FIRST SATURDAY IN MAY -KENTUCKY DERBY FASHION-

When I was a child, we participated in The Easter Parade, dressed in our new dresses and Easter Bonnets, to herald the advent of Spring. Hats which began as functional accessories (helping to avoid Sunstroke), evolved into a symbol of much more. The history of Derby Fashion dates back to 1875 and coincides with the “Run for the Roses”. The Kentucky Derby is the longest running sporting event in the United States. It was after Meriwether Lewis Clark, the grandson of William Clark [Of Lewis and Clark fame] traveled to Europe and attended the Epsom Derby in England, that he returned to America with the idea for a spectacular sporting event, envisioned as high-class, European-style racing.

For Americans, the Triple Crown Events (the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes) are as important as the Royal Ascot in the UK. The tradition of the Kentucky Derby hat and fashion may be related to the expected glamour and Dress Code of the Royal Ascot each June. Dress Code at the Royal Ascot are based on the Enclosure to which one is permitted. Women at the Royal Ascot must wear a hat with at least a four inch base within the Royal Enclosure, Shoulders must be covered and hemlines are at the knee. Rules vary for the Queen Ann’s Enclosure, and the Village Enclosure, and according to the Royal Ascot website, jumpsuits are now permitted [https://www.ascot.co.uk/what-to-wearssss/what-to-wear/what-to-wear].

The Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks are unique when compared to other American sports and entertainment events due to the hats and fashion. The Kentucky Derby website states. . . ” Going to a horse racing event became an opportunity to show off the latest in spring fashion and women were known to coordinate their hats, dresses, bags, shoes, and. . . parasols. . . The extravagant hats that have become associated with the Kentucky Derby . . . came into vogue circa the 1960s, when. . . the presence of television gave women a reason to stand out. The hats became. . . more extravagant . . . ” [https://www.kentuckyderby.com/history/traditions/hats]

Reinventing Audace Fashion School of Modeling

This morning I spoke with DebbieDoo Tigerfish about the reinvention of the Audace Fashion School of Modeling. The concept of reinvention means integrating new concepts, themes, and ideas into an existing structure. I have definitely been there. Reinventing a business is oftentimes necessary to get it where you want it to be. Not only has the concept been refreshed, but there is also a whole new school on a brand new sim located at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Coffee%20Island/125/114/34

According to Owner and Chief Executive Office DebbieDoo Tigerfish, although part of the need to restructure was the illnesses of some of the prime movers in the school, “We were getting a bit boring doing [the] same old thing. so now we [are] all well…I want to make things exciting..so making shows so more models can be in…with Audace models first.”

The last graduating class of 2018 finished in November 2018. The first Class of 2019 has nine (9) students. Classes began February 16, 2019 with a “meet and greet”.

A “meet and greet” is like an old-fashioned ‘open house’. At Audace Fashion School of Modeling’s “meet and greet, the attendees toured the new facility and had the opportunity to meet with students, faculty, administration, and mentors. Students were exposed to the comprehensive program and received their class schedules. One of the superb aspects of this years’ program is the inclusion of videos uploaded to the internet to allow students twenty-four hour per day access to training, examples, and visual aids.

Meet The Students

Alexa Nox (TheAlexa Resident) said, ” I am an 27 Year old Woman from Austria who knows what she wants. I am friendly and helpful, and never walk away from something that seems impossible. I try as long as it takes to achieve my goals.

Ϯ Aѕн Ɓ. Rєgιηℓєιƒ Ϯ (ExquisitBeauty Resident) introduced herself this way, ” I am down to earth, love to dance and listen to music. I love hanging out with my family and friends. I enjoy riding my motorcycles and hanging out with my MC brothers and sisters. I like to explore SL [SecondLife tm] as well. I’m sweet, loyal, can be pretty goofy at times, but also know when I need to be serious. I truly care about those I hold close to me.”

Lydia (LydiaFairmount Resident) described herself this way, ” I’m a creative weirdo- different is what I do. I don’t have one avenue of expression . I see the world as a whole and it’s beautiful. I’m also the outgoing funny friend who you want to stand next to at parties. I m strong-willed and yet patient and nurturing. I am a million and two (sic) different things and each one surprises even me.”

WildLove Ⓒαяяιηgtση (cowgirlwildlove38 Resident) said that ” I am fun and outgoing and love to talk and hang out just to have fun, too.

Fashion is fluid.  It is an ever-changing movement toward perfection in color and form.    The staple and essence of this fall style are the interchangeable pieces.

Visually stunning and an awe-inspiring wealth of color and texture stimulates the senses in this incredible show.

Make a statement this season with long sleeves and vibrant colors.  Add one outrageous color as a fashion accessory.  Don’t forget that bright, colorful tiny clutch purse or jeweled hair comb for that special touch.   Chic details and embroidered lace are just a few of the steps toward effortless perfection.

Fashion cannot work without the proper accessories, or even the planned absents of an accessory.

Fearful, Fanciful, and Fabulous Fashions Welcome The Halloween Season

By MaiaCer Lysette

In her article in Scientific American, Margee Kerr on October 29 2018 states that, Immanual Kant [1724-1804], one of the most influential philosophers of the history of Western philosophy, {and thus by extension the modern history of psychology} said that we (humanity) love to be frightened from a safe distance, and that he called the experience sublime (https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/why-we-love-to-scare-ourselves-on-halloween-and-the-rest-of-the-year-too/).  Is it our Categorical Imperative to terrorize our neighbors?  Enjoy our attempt to frighten ourselves, our colleagues, and our audience into a sublime experience.

All Photos are by Matt unless noted.   Please help to identify yourself.  We did not have a walk order.  Nevertheless, enjoy.

Black seemed to be the primary color in many of the outfits along with various accents of orange and red.   Mix sheer metallic were often paired with shades of deep turquoise  or Malachite lipstick.  Sequin pants and festive beads woven into hairstyles for effect augmented black and/or white wings.  Demons,  personified in hues of green and orange, are time -tested
